Picking your summer sandals may be one of the most important decisions of the season. They need to be relatively comfortable, look good with most of your warm-weather wardrobe and tick all the vacation boxes, too. To help you out, we’ve been perusing the Instas of the ASOS Insiders for inspiration – here’s what we’ve found.
Tevas are the unexpected comeback story of the season. Yes, that’s right, just like hiking boots and tech runners, the practical sandals you used to find only in camping shops are now top of everyone’s wishlist. Here, ASOS Kicki gives her neon slip dress a quirky edge with black platform sandals from the brand. Too hot to sandal.
Tevas aren’t your thing? There is another sensible sandal option that remains a fashion-girl fave: the Birkenstock. No longer reserved for art teachers or hippies, the shoe has been gaining momentum since Phoebe Philo recreated a similar pair for Celine in 2012 – and they’re sticking around for this season at least. Here, ASOS Olive proves they look mighty fine with your summer denim and button-up crop top.
If it’s a work sandal you’re after, make like ASOS Lesley and go for a barely there beige block-heel. They’ll go with everything, but we suggest taking tips from this pic and pairing them with fresh white jeans and a beige shacket – neutrals, neutrals and more neutrals.
For a flat sandal that has a bit more romance than your Tevas or your Birkenstocks, a lace-up Gladiator vibe is always a win. A black pair is a low-key yet on-point option, perfect for your feet when your top half is having a serious moment. Check out ASOS Kicki and her cow-print ensemble for evidence of their excellence.
If you prefer to make a statement with your sandals, neon is the way to go. Here, ASOS Olive has opted for a toe-loop shape, tapping into yet another key trend this season. As you can see, extreme heels are not just for your BNO – pair them with high-waisted shorts and a vest top for a seriously good lakeside look.
