TOPSHOP:What The Girls At Topshop HQ Are Buying This Payday

After what feels like three months in one, the day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: payday. And although you’ve probably been planning what to buy all month, it can be quite hard to narrow down what you really want when the time comes. So, as always, we asked the girls at Topshop HQ what they can’t wait to get their hands on this payday for a bit of inspiration. We’re sure at least one or two things on this list will take your fancy. Happy shopping!
Bethany Higgins – CRM Assistant Topman
“I’m in urgent need of a bag update! I love this cute little backpack because of its buckle detail and box shape – perfect for everyday essentials and city break travels.”
Cailin Klohk – Digital Editor Topshop
“Right now, all I want to wear are pastel knits. They’re perfect for that transitional period, when it’s still cold outside but you want to introduce a touch of spring to your wardrobe. I added this cropped buttermilk jumper straight to my wishlist when I saw it on our Instagram feed recently and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.”
Lauren Blackie – Online Visual Merchandiser
“I’m not exaggerating, I have bought this shirt in four colours. The oversized shape with tapered sleeves is universally flattering and will look great paired with jeans or leather trousers. And it will also look cute with a mini when the sun makes an appearance later in the year!”
Kathryn Hind – Online Trading Assistant
“Payday is basically my monthly excuse to buy another coat or jacket. This month, it’s this great blazer in a lovely lemon yellow. Who says you have to match your outfit to the weather anyway? As soon as I get paid this blazer is going straight in my basket…”
Nicole Croft – Senior Online Production Coordinator
“My jeans are in desperate need of a re-vamp and these mom jeans are perfect for seeing me through my daily Topshop office life styled with trainers, or with heels when I head straight to after-work drinks.”
Shannon Klohk – German Editorial Assistant
“These mules are just so classic, I would get them in every colour if I could. But this camel tone goes with everything and I can’t wait to wear them out as soon as spring is here!”
Becca Wade – Junior Editor Topshop
“I’ve been wearing dark colours all winter and I’m getting so bored of it, so I really want to inject some colour into my wardrobe this month. That’s why I’m dying to buy all these colourful pieces on payday. The almost-neon colours have this energy which I think feels really fresh for the new-season.”
Grace Duce – Copywriter
“This season I have fallen in love with this double-breasted trench coat, designed in the prettiest of pinks. This belted beauty is perfect with denim jeans as well as black dresses and is ready for spring styling. There’s something so classic about a trusty trench!”
Mihanta Ramamonjisoa – French Editorial Assistant
” I’ve had my eyes on these blue dad jeans for a few weeks now, so they’ll definitely be my first purchase this payday. I don’t have any mid-blue ripped jeans in my wardrobe at the moment and I think they would go with so many pieces that I already have. I’d pair them with a simple white tee or an elevated printed blouse.”
Yasmine Kennedy – Digital Editorial Assistant
“I’ve got plenty of black boots in my wardrobe already, so I think it’s about time I invested in a lighter shade. I’m pretty obsessed with these ones, as they’ll go with absolutely everything in my wardrobe and are a great way to transition into the brighter months. I’m picturing them with a white mini dress when summer arrives.”
Ella Josey – Online Production Assistant
“This jacket is fab-u-lous. I tried it on in store and it looks perfect paired with tights and heeled boots! I feel like it’s a great investment this time of year and with spring approaching I’ll discard the heavy duty borg coats and will want a lighter jacket. Maybe I’m just wishing away the winter, but this is a spring essential.”

ZARA:4 Trends Anna Wintour Said She Loved Last Year—and 3 She Hated

You didn’t think we’d stop listening to Anna Wintour in 2020, did you? As we’ve reported before, the editor in chief’s Go Ask Anna video series for Vogue is a treasure trove of information and offers us rare glimpses inside her mind. Sometimes she tells us what not to wear to a job interview and other times she’ll recap the biggest runway trends. Whatever the content is, you know it will be insightful and informed coming from one of the biggest names in fashion.
Since we now have a full year of videos to look back on, we decided to take a walk down memory lane and revisit some of Wintour’s key messages from last year. Hint: Raffia is in, and all-black is out. Scroll down to shop four trends Wintour has approved of and find out the three trends she’d pass on.
Loved: Sleeveless Dresses
Last summer, Wintour was asked in a video about the best item to stay chic in hot weather. Her answer: sleeveless dresses.
Hated: Boring Sequin Dresses
Wintour’s February 2019 video for Vogue discussed what not to wear to black-tie events. “Don’t wear a boring sequin dress or a debutante-style dress just because you feel you should,” Wintour said. “I get the most pleasure and the most excitement, and I think the person who’s wearing it does as well, when I look at a woman who’s wearing something that I feel looks just like her.”
Loved: Trench Coats
When asked about the top trends for 2020, Wintour made sure to include trench coats on her list. Luckily, there are tons of affordable yet chic options out there.
Hated: All Black
“Just don’t wear all black,” Wintour said in a video last spring. “It seems too gloomy, as if one’s going to a funeral.” Instead, she suggested “adding some color or favorite piece of jewelry or maybe white boots. Just something that’s a little bit unexpected.”
Loved: Bucket Bags
Last month, Wintour was asked about the best accessories trends and she made sure to call out bucket bags. “Bucket bags and more bucket bags, in leather, in canvas, in suede, in every possible fabric that you can think of,” she said.
Hated: Neon Leggings
In August 2019, Wintour revealed in a Vogue video that she had seen “far too many neon leopard-print leggings, something that I would definitely not want to see again.”
Loved: Raffia
“We’re seeing a lot of linen and raffia fabrics that are very organic and natural,” Wintour said in response to a question about 2020 accessory trends.

ZARA:Your Official List of “Trendy” Basics to Buy in 2020

Trends are great and all, but have you ever discovered that something that is currently “trending” is sitting in your very own closet? If you haven’t, you’re about to. As we’ve touched on quite a lot this past year, there has been a drastic shift in the industry toward a more wearable wardrobe. This includes tons of pieces that, up until now, we considered basics or wardrobe staples. But when those staples start to, well, trend, then we’ve hit the sweet spot.

Today, we’re here to report on the eight “trendy” basics that everyone will be wearing in 2020. The best thing about the items on this list is that buying into each is buying into a better wardrobe overall versus a one-off trend you could maybe wear once or twice. Purchasing long tailored shorts, a fresh button-down shirt, or heeled loafers, for example, is really putting all your money back into a wardrobe that will serve you for seasons on end. And in case you already own all of the below, well then consider yourself lucky (and extremely stylish).
Longer shorts have worked their way into both the suiting and basics worlds in 2020. Embrace longer hemlines and get ready for all of your T-shirts and tanks to look 10 times cooler this spring.
The ’90s have felt “back” for a while now, but the S/S 20 collections unearthed things like shoulder bags and (drumroll, please) tube tops. These strapless comfy wonders are the perfect counterpart to any of the bottoms you’ll see in any trend guide moving forward.
Classic button-down shirts are the multi-hit wonder that surely you already have sitting in your closet. What once might have felt like the most boring item sitting in your closet now embodies all things chic and polished this season.
Grandma style is another major movement that is here to stay, and the spring runways proved that heeled loafers are the freshest way to channel all things granny this season.
Long denim skirts have finally made their triumphant return to the fashion scene, and we’re loving the subtle styling that we’ve seen so far on Instagram. From Canadian tuxedos to simple tanks, this is one skirt trend we are more than here for.
Shoulder bags are a prominent handbag style that is both practical and completely on trend. We are currently loving the ’90s-inspired shapes, but we’ve seen many more iterations featuring everything from chain straps to croissant shapes.
Slip dresses are a style you’re probably very familiar with, but thanks to the runways pretty much shoving in our faces that lingerie-inspired dressing is here to stay, we are really leaning into the idea of more boudoir-esque slip dresses in 2020.
Shocked to see baseball hats make this list? If you don’t already own one, the good news is that your significant other or your dad might, or you can snag one on the cheap from Amazon as seen below. We promise this trend will quietly creep its way into your wardrobe, and before you know it, you’ll be wanting to wear one every day.

ZARA:The Internet Has Spoken—These Are the Top 5 It Items of the Month

Trends emerge at the speed of light these days, so to keep you up to date on what the fashion crowd is wearing and posting about, we’re launching a new series that highlights all the It pieces currently flooding our Instagram feeds. Each month, we’ll walk you through the items that have swiftly made the rounds on Instagram, earning them It status.
Remember the last time we did this roundup? If not, let me break it down. If you’re familiar with this story, then simply continue on to get your download on the coolest pieces in the fashion world right now. If you’re new here, you can consider this story your monthly cheat sheet on the most popular fashion items on Instagram (and across the internet, for that matter). We’ve spotted the following going-out tops, ankle boots, and It bags on the more than one of the many fashion insiders we love to follow and a notable celeb or two (hi, Hailey!), so we’re taking it upon ourselves to report on the emerging It items. Keep reading to discover the defining pieces of January.
Bottega Veneta Shoulder Pouch Gathered Leather Bag
Another day, another Bottega Veneta It bag. The brand that’s setting all the trends right now just launched its latest handbag—the Shoulder Pouch Gathered Leather Bag—and it’s a shoulder bag iteration of its infamous oversize pouch that we’ve likened to the ruched shape of a croissant. Fashion insiders are already clamoring to get their hands on the new It bag, but there are similar options at a range of price points from brands like Staud that we adore just the same.
Manu Atelier Boots
Manu Atelier’s newest version of its futuristic Duck Boots is painted in a black-and-white checkerboard motif that feels especially cool for right now. The ankle boots also feature a square toe and inverted heel, two details that are defining all the coolest shoes right now. In fact, the more we looked, the more we realized that two-tone boots are all over the market right now, a few of which we’ve included below.
Nanushka Kisa Leather Pants
Leather pants are a timeless wardrobe staple, and Nanushka has set out to make them cooler than ever. Its Kisa pants feature a wide leg and Western-style belt that gives a new spin to the classic pants. Fashion girls have mostly been sticking to the same styling idea when wearing the vegan leather trousers: neutral knits and classic handbags do the trick.
& Other Stories Square-Neck Jacquard Top
If you’ve read these roundups in the past, you’d know that it’s not every day an affordable fashion find makes its way into the top five of the month (they’re usually very designer-heavy), which is why we’re especially excited to highlight this perfect top from & Other Stories. With a jacquard texture, square neckline, and puffy sleeves, it’s everything we want in a going-out top.
Balenciaga BB Slippers
Hailey Bieber and Sofia Richie both own the easy flats and have been wearing them on repeat since 2020 began. With a square toe and double-B logo, these shoes make other flat slides pale in comparison. Though the Balenciaga pair is a luxury investment, we’re already seeing similar square-toe flats and flat slides in a range of price points, so really anyone can get in on the look.
On Hailey Bieber: Jacquemus Lima Sweater; Gramicci Boa Fleece Pants; Staud Frida Bag ($112); Jennifer Fisher Mini Samira Hoop Earrings; Balenciaga BB Slippers ($1190); Celine sunglasses; Tiffany & Co. necklace

ZARA:The Worst Shoes to Wear to the Office

Figuring out how to master your wardrobe in a professional setting can sometimes be difficult to navigate. It’s often a tricky balance to personal style with professional style in a work setting—and shoes are no exception. The issue gets even more complicated when fashion enters the equation. What are the best styles to wear, and which ones should you skip in the office?
To find out from a veteran of both the fashion industry and a professional office setting, I asked Michelle Scanga from Who What Wear to weigh in with her take on which shoes are best to wear at the office—and the style she wouldn’t recommend. “Wearing shoes that you can’t confidently walk in is a big no in my book,” she says, “along with sky-high stiletto heels.”
While towering stilettos are a no in her book, she has some recommendations for what to wear instead. “I think it’s better to err on the more conservative side and opt for a moderate heel height,” she says, “or you really can’t go wrong with a block heel.”
If you’re in the market for some new office-appropriate shoes that are also fashion girl–approved, go on to see my edit of the best new styles to add to your closet right now.
Moderate Heel Height
As Scanga recommends, a moderate heel height is always a great bet for the office. You can choose a style ranging from closed-toe slingbacks to open-toe sandals to ankle boots depending on your personal style and office culture.
These shoes are everywhere on the street style scene and a great option for the office as well.
Pumps this fall are finished with cool modern upgrades like these cutout side panels.
Another modern take on pumps.
You can’t go wrong with a classic.
For a little edge without going over the top.
Try out an unexpected color like lime green, which we’re seeing everywhere this season.
Sculptural heels are so trendy right now.
A croc finish is a great way to transition your boots to fall.
This style also comes in burgundy.
Strappy sandals are perfect for the office when paired with elevated trousers.
Block Heels
Another great office shoe style that Scanga recommends is block heels. The comfortable shoes are easy to walk in so are a great option to wear all day long.
Pair these with high-waisted trousers.
Some statement shoes you can wear to work.
These classic slingbacks get a cool upgrade with a snakeskin print.
Pair these with anything from a pencil skirt to a midi dress.
Slip into shoes from Jacquemus’s fall collection.
Here’s a summer style that can cross over to fall.
Look for boots with a block heel to pair with trousers and dresses.
Slouchy boots are everywhere for fall and are perfect for pairing with a long dress at the office.

ZARA:29 Easy Ways to Look On-Trend When You Have Under $60 to Spare

There may be some irresistible sales going on right now, but we can’t help but set our eyes on all the new-season arrivals to hit our favorite stores (unquestionably, getting us excited to liven up our look this year). If you’re looking for some easy ways to look wholly on-trend this season (and into the next) but don’t want to spend a ton, then this one’s for you. We’ve rounded up some of the coolest, newest pieces to hit the internet that will refresh your wardrobe in an instant.
The best part? We’ve kept all the items under $60. (So you can save your pennies for a well-deserved spring break instead.) From statement sleeves to larger-than-life tote bags to the 70s-inspired trends that will be huge come spring, scroll below for our must-have picks to get your hands on right now that will give your outfit an of-the-moment look.
Leather (in particular, colorful leather) continues to be a huge trend for 2020. Opt for an expensive-looking beige pair of pants to nail the trend.
Puffed sleeves are here to stay. This silky blouse is super wearable for work, the weekend, and beyond.
Seventies-inspired sunglasses were all over the spring runways. Expect to see the silhouette on an Insta feed near you.
Extra-large tote bags are a fashion-girl must for 2020. This white weave one is super chic.
Shackets (shirt-jacket hybrids) are everywhere right now. We particularly love the pearl button details on this H&M one that elevates the casual piece.
Flared and boot-cut jeans are back.
We spotted polo-style tops all over the spring/summer 2020 runways, and we can’t get enough.
If you’re going to invest in one jewelry trend, make it a chunky chain-link necklace.
The most on-trend way to elevate your tailored separates this year. Wear with a suit for a sharp look.
Heeled loafers are one of the biggest shoe trends we’ll be seeing this year.
If you do one thing, buy yourself a pair of long shorts. Trust us.
Chunky, large hoops are the easiest way to add a modern touch to your look. (These are a little over $60, but worth it!)
It’s all about statement sleeves in 2020.
High slits made their debut on the spring/summer 2020 runways.
We’re all glad to hear polka dots are trending for 2020. Wear them now with tights, boots, and an overcoat. Just add minimal sandals come spring.
Lug-sole boots are the coolest way to look on-trend right now. Wear them with your billowy dresses.
Houndstooth prints make every outfit look more expensive. Moreover, we saw black-and-white outfits reign supreme on the runways.
Opt for modern pearls in artistic silhouettes. This is a trend straight off the catwalks.
If you want to take on the ’70s flower-power trend this year, this floral-print maxi will help you do it.
Wear the above dress cinched at the waist with this chic vintage-inspired belt.
Suede might just be the It fabric of 2020.
Welcome denim skirts back into your wardrobe. Vintage-looking midi lengths are the style to go for.
Refresh your handbag collection with a trending croissant silhouette.
The most current accessory trend? Rope belts. Try it as part of this cool and cozy cardigan.
Yes, friends—baseball hats are trending for 2020.
Mint green is the hue to be seen in.
The utility trend is here to stay.
It’s all about “big collar energy” this year. Large pointed collar button downs over blazers are the runway-approved way to wear them.
The bigger, the better when it comes to your handbags.

ZARA:I Live in Paris—and These Are the 5 Ways French Women Are Styling Knitwear

Every month, Londoner-turned-Parisienne Marissa Cox of Rue Rodier will bring you her pearls of Parisian fashion wisdom and style tips straight from the French capital. A photographer, writer and influencer, we turn to the oh-so-chic Marissa on a regular basis for a truly unique take on her adopted country’s signature style. Whether we’re looking to her décor decisions, handbag purchases or chic hotel choices, we can all agree that being un petit peu plus Français could never be a bad thing…
With winter just around the corner, my current wish lists are made up of cozy cable knits, ribbed turtlenecks, and cashmere sweaters—basically anything that will prevent those icy chills. But big chunky sweaters and thicker layers aren’t always easy to pull off, and I don’t want to end up looking like a yeti, the Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters, or Joey in that scene from Friends when he wears all of his clothes.
When it comes to knitwear, the French seem to have a knack of making it look more stylish than most. Perhaps it’s the way they style it, or the way it falls nonchalantly (or is it effortlessly) off their shoulders, whichever it is, there is a thing or two to be learned. After all, French women are single-handedly responsible for making the cardigan sexy, despite it being invented in the 19th century by the Earl of Cardigan, who was obviously a man and a Brit.
Here are my top tips on donning heavier layers that I’ve borrowed from the French, so you can stay warm whilst not sacrificing on style.

  1. Belt It
It’s all about balance—if you’re wearing an oversize jumper, wear slim trousers—unless you’ve purposely gone for the oversized look of course. But I’d advise you to wear it the French way (as you’ll see at the likes of BA&SH) and throw jumpers over a skirt or dress and cinch it in at the waist with a belt.
  2. Wear Your Cardigans Backward
Cardigans aren’t new, so what did iconic, Parisian-born brand Sézane do? They turned it around so that the buttons go down the back. Genius. It perfectly offers just the right amount of je ne sais quoi whilst not giving too much away. And there are now sweaters that have been specifically designed to show off your back with pretty detailing.
  3. Opt for a Subtle Embellishment or Detailing
The French are traditionally not ones to play with color and pattern, so the textured, cable knit or sweater with a knitted embellishment is a safer, chicer option.
  4. Wear Your Cozy Sweater With a Short Skirt
Despite a reputation for being more open and free about their bodies, the French never show off too much at the same time (unless it’s summer and seriously hot)—i.e., it’s either legs or cleavage and rarely both. One common Parisian outfit is to wear heavier layers on top, with a short skirt. Team with a pair of long boots so you can hide your favorite slipper socks inside to keep your feet warm.
  5. Make Your Cardigans Cropped Like Jeanne Damas
The cardigan has made a huge comeback in recent years, but you only have to watch Brigitte Bardot films or Inst-stalk Parisian It girls Jeanne Damas and Sabina Socol to see why. If you want to dress French, get a cardy and make it cropped.

TOPSHOP:5 Stylish Workout Looks That Will Make You Actually Want To Hit The Gym

Already falling behind on your new year’s resolution to go to the gym AT LEAST once a week? Don’t despair, we’ve got just the thing to motivate you: some really sleek workout clothes that are so good they’ll have you exercising every day! Whether you’re after something chic and streamlined or a few more layers that will keep you warm at the uni lecture you have before your Body Pump session, these are the pieces you need…

  1. Simple for spinning…
If you don’t want to attract too much attention at the gym, but still want to look as chic as possible, go for a classic monochrome pairing: either an easy all-in-one or some leggings with a baggy tee will work well.
  2. Pink for (Body) Pump…
All black too plain? Give yourself a sartorial energy boost by opting for pieces in bright pinks and pastels. Carry all your gym essentials in a cute Topshop tote and keep your indoor gym trainers squeaky clean by slipping on a pair of these colour co-ordinated trainers for travel.
  3. Patterns for the park…
If you’ve got an outdoor session planned – like circuits in the park or a running club – you’re going to be needing a few more layers. Start by pairing some jazzy leggings with a matching seamless sports bra, then stay warm by throwing a loose Tee and a soft motif sweatshirt over the top.
  4. Stuff for stretching…
Your outfit doesn’t need to be as streamlined for low-intensity and strengthening activities like Yoga or Pilates, so if these are your thing, why not go for gym leggings with a cool kick flare shape. Finish the look with a loose vest, some funky scrunchies and tote.
  5. Tracksuit for training…
You’re dying to get to the cross-trainer but you’ve got to put in a long shift at the library first AND run a few errands in town beforehand – this calls for a cosy fleece tracksuit that you can easily wear over your gym kit and will give off those sporty gym vibes all day long.

TOPSHOP:5 Ways To Style Topshop’s New Vintage Bazaar Trend

Topshop’s latest trend edit ‘Vintage Bazaar‘ has arrived and it encapsulates everything we love about vintage clothing – without us having to rummage through a charity shop for hours to find all the gems. It’s all about the styling with this trend: think oversized blazer coats paired with retro floral dresses and croc ankle boots, or flowy blouses, high-waist shorts and mules. Keep scrolling to discover five ways to style the collection so you will totally get away with saying ‘it’s vintage’. We won’t tell if you won’t…

  1. Change your spots
Meet the new trending jean everyone is talking about – mid waist, bleach wash and a split hem to show off those new shoes. Pair the old-school classic with a leopard print top, a pearl bag and yellow tinted glasses to put a sepia filter on everything in sight.
  2. Oh so ’70s
The hero dress of the campaign is the ultimate multitasker – perfect for weddings, work, weekends and anything else your diaries got in store. Here we’ve paired it with biker boots and a mini white bag but some mules would also work perfectly for any more formal occasions.
  3. Collegiate chic
Look like you’ve just stepped out of a ’70s high school show in our Brooklyn slogan tee and yellow check blazer. Go for all-white everywhere else to keep the rest of the look subdued and crisp. We’re obsessed with this look if we do say so ourselves…
  4. Fembot cool
Is Spring here yet? This vinyl skirt and floral top duo is giving us total Austin Power vibes with a 2020 twist. Tie in the green on the top with this croc bag and throw on a pair of fresh white trainers to keep the look easy.
  5. Chasing knee highs
Channel Twiggy in the ultimate ’60s look we’ll never tire of – a mini dress with knee high boots. A little black bag with a matching headband are the perfect accessories and some gold hoops never go amiss as the finishing touch.
