TOPSHOP:5 Simple Things To Do To Start The New Year In The Right Way

The new year is just around the corner and we’re sure you’re more than ready to make 2020 the best year ever. Right? Yet, there are always certain fears, pressures and insecurities looming when an old year end and a new one begins – which is why we came up with five things that will help you start 2020 off on the right foot. From unfollowing toxic people to completing some boring admin, we’ve got you prepped and ready…

  1. Unfollow, unfollow, unfollow
Although we hate to admit it, social media accounts take up a massive chunk of our lives so it’s super important to only follow people that bring you happiness. Whether it’s the fitness model that makes you feel super insecure, that boy you went on a date with once and never spoke to again or your ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, clear them out and give yourself a feed full of positive vibes only. And in certain situations don’t be afraid of that block button either…
  2. Start a new hobby
If this isn’t already one of your New Year’s resolutions, then it definitely should be. Starting a new hobby is a great way to brighten up those grey January days and to add something different to your weekly routine, whether it’s a different workout class, taking up writing, a pottery class or even just reading more often. You’re likely to make some new friends in the process and it’s a proven way to relieve stress, boost confidence and promote happiness. We’re sold.
  3. Clear out your wardrobe
Out with the old, in with the new – make space in your wardrobe this new year by clearing out the old things you’ve never worn or will never wear again. Stick by the classic rule of if you’ve not worn it in the past six months get rid of it. This way you can make some more room in your wardrobe for pieces you really want, do your bit for charity or make a bit of money by selling things online. And this one doesn’t have to just relate to your clothes: clearing out your expired makeup, sorting some paperwork or organising that one messy drawer are good options too.
  4. Write down all your achievements from last year
When a year comes to an end a lot of the time we focus on all the negative things we want to leave behind. Whilst this can be beneficial, it’s also important to remember all the good things that happened too. It could be anything from landing a new job, making new friends or just that amazing summer holiday you had, so make sure to reminisce on these things as well as focusing on what could have gone better when planning your goals for next year.
  5. Sort out any admin
Sorry to end on a boring note but there’s no time like January to get lots of admin done: book a dentist appointment, update the software on your phone or even just check in with a friend you didn’t manage to see over Christmas. A lot of the time these are things we add to the end of our to-do lists hoping they’ll just disappear – but unfortunately they won’t. The sooner it’s done the sooner you’ll feel relieved…
Still in need of a New Year’s resolution? Here are seven that aren’t actually impossible to achieve…
