TOPSHOP:5 Ways To Style Oversized Shirts For Every Occasion

The shirt has always been a classic wardrobe staple, but this season it’s getting a big update with new colours, fresh fabrications and oversized silhouettes. Scared you’ll look like you’ve been draped in a bedsheet or don’t manage to pull off the ‘borrowed my boyfriend’s shirt’ aesthetic? The styling is pretty crucial to getting the look right. To help you nail it with ease, we’ve put together outfits for five different occasions to get you started…

  1. The 9-5
Updating your workwear wardrobe can be as simple as opting for an oversized fit when it comes to the staple button up. We’ve gone for a classic blue-stripe and black trouser combo here but jazzed it up with some bright blue boots for a bit of 2020 flare. Throw on your trench and a tote and you’re guaranteed to be the best-dressed commuter on the tube.
  2. The 5-9
Don’t be tempted to ditch your white shirt completely when the clock strikes 5pm. Instead, swap your workwear bottoms with a mini snakeskin skirt and grab your dancing shoes for a super easy transition from desk to dancefloor. Add a mini nylon bag and some gunmetal earrings and you’re all set!
  3. Brunching
A shirt doesn’t always need to mean cotton: in fact, this season’s favourite fabrications are on the sheerer side. If you’re heading to brunch, pair your favourite jeans of the moment with some classic mules and have some fun with a pearl bag and funky earrings to complete the look.
  4. Out-out
When heading on a big night out, an oversized shirt might not be your go-to look. However, draping an organza shirt over a cool bodysuit and wearing it with a mini skirt could make it feel more exciting. Finish the styling with some animal print stilettos and a little black bag to achieve the ultimate out-out outfit.
  5. Gigs and things
Don’t want to wear a jacket but it’s still a bit chilly outside? Choose a faux leather oversized shirt when heading to a gig to keep warm in the queue but don’t overheat in the venue. Utility trousers and chunky boots are the model off-duty staples right now, so we would style the outfit with them and then add a fun bag for a true cool-girl vibe.
