H&M MOdel: ELSA HOSK

Elsa Hosk is 26 years old, lives in downtown Manhattan and is one of 15 Victoria’s Secret Angels. The Swedish stunner has spent half her life on runways, in front of cameras and on planes to reach them.

She started modeling after her dad sent photos of her to a Swedish modeling agency. At that time she was 13, went to secondary school and was a promising basketball player. Eventually she dropped the sport in favor of offers from big brands and renowned magazines, but before doing so she had played in the Swedish women’s basketball league and practiced eight (!) times a week. When Elsa turned 18 and graduated from high school, she chose to devote her time to modeling. To be able do that she needed to relocate to New York.After moving, she went from successful to extremely successful. H&M, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Guess and Anna Sui are a few brands Elsa’s shot campaigns for. During a shoot with H&M, she answered our Top Model Secrets questionnaire.

The Story behind white T-shirt from H&M

The jeans and T-shirt combination is a timeless look mastered by the eternal style icon James Dean. Read on for a history lesson on the most popular fashion item of all.

Between the final years of the 1800s and the early 1900s, the T-shirt was invented. It’s believed to have evolved from a flannel one-piece called the union suit, which was common men’s underwear during the 1800s. The one-piece was great for keeping its wearer warm but hopeless for cooling him down – so it was replaced by the T-shirt out of necessity.Until the middle of the 1900s, the figure-hugging T-shirt was never worn as anything else than underwear, and wearing it without a second layer on top was frowned upon. That changed in two steps: When troops returned from the Second World War it became accepted as casual wear, and in 1951 it reached fashion status thanks to Marlon Brando sporting a tight one in cult classic A Streetcar Named Desire. With James Dean’s leading role in Rebel Without a Cause, the trend exploded – and it hasn’t faded since. Wearing a T-shirt with rolled up sleeves, semi-tucked into a pair of blue jeans became an iconic and timeless look.

After its promotion from underwear to fashion item, the T-shirt arguably became the most popular garment of them all – for so many reasons.

From Idea to Store: Production process of H&M Clothing

H&M doesn’t own any factories, instead we work with around 900 independent suppliers – who are close, long-term partners. In the other words, Our products are sourced from independent suppliers, mainly in Europe and Asia. These suppliers manufacture our products and generally source fabrics and other components needed. We work closely with long-term partners and invest significant resources in our sustainability work in the supply chain.

We have a team of around 80 people who audit working conditions at supplier factories against our Code of Conduct. The production offices also perform extensive safety and quality testing as well as ensuring chemical requirements are met. So customers must feel confident that everything they buy at H&M is designed, produced and distributed with the greatest consideration for people and the environment.
