How To Dress Like A Crazy Chic New Yorker– SHOWPO

Ask anyone who’s ever visited New York and they’ll relay one thing (with a glimmer in their eyes as they call to mind their fave borough or the black and white milkshake they had at Shake Shack): NYC is in fact, the greatest city in the world. And they’re 100% right. But aside from that, New York is also responsible for some of the greatest fashion in the world. There’s something innately, infinitely cool about native New Yorkers – they’re the ideal mix of perfectly polished and too chic to care. So whether you’re injecting some overseas inspo into your at-home outfitsClothing can be made of textiles, animal skin, or other thin sheets of materials put together. The wearing of clothing is mostly restricted to human beings and is a feature of nearly all human societies. The amount and type of clothing worn depend on body type, social, and geographic considerations. Some clothing can be gender-specific. or just dying to avoid looking like a tourist on your next visit to the Big Apple, here are our tips for adding a little Manhattan magic into your wardrobeA wardrobe is a standing closet used for storing clothes. The earliest wardrobe was a chest, and it was not until some degree of luxury was attained in regal palaces and the castles of powerful nobles that separate accommodation was provided for the apparel of the great. The name of wardrobe was then given to a room in which the wall-space was filled with closets and lockers, the drawer being a comparatively modern invention. From these cupboards and lockers the modern wardrobe, with its hanging spaces, sliding shelves and drawers, evolved slowly..

Midtown
In the heart of Manhattan you’ll find one of the chicest specimens around: the unstoppable career woman. Whether she’s running her own company, an editor at a fashion magazine or a sought-after event planner, these busy bees create their own opportunities (and uniforms!). They’re your quintessential NYC girls, which basically means black is always the new black. She’ll never look past a timeless suit, but takes it from corporate to cool-girl with a little lace layering, a power pump and the perfect handbagA handbag, also called purse or pouch in North American English, is a handled medium-to-large bag, often used by women, to carry personal items..

Upper East Side
Blair Waldorf fanatics rejoice: this is all you. Whether you’re scouring the Fifth Avenue boutiques, strolling in Central Park or sunning on the steps of The Met, you’re definitely going to want to put a little prep in your step. Colour blocking is a must and statement coats are non-negotiable. The UES look is all about accessories (and no we don’t mean arm candy in the form of Chuck Bass) – we’re talking headbands, hats and handbags bound to be the envy of everyone around you. Wonderful, consider your wardrobe officially Waldorf-approved.

Soho
When you say Soho, you say shopping – in fact, it’s one of New York’s most fashion-forward neighbourhoods. The local crowd is vibrant and non-chalant with an effortlessly cool edge, so a neutral colour palette and statement accessories are your best bets for seamlessly slotting in on the Soho streets. Try a leather jacket and jeans combo paired with stripes and a bright shoulder bag. Your feet will seriously thank you for a visit to this part of town: heels might as well have a “not a local” sticker attached to them, and boots and sneaker reign supreme.

Brooklyn
Brooklyn girls have a style all their own – it’s the home of quirky, artistic women who aren’t afraid to play around with colours and prints. These gals are fashion-conscious without trying too hard, so of course it comes across 110% cooler. Vintage-style skirts in funky fabrics are a must and give off the perfect bohemian Brooklyn vibe when teamed with simple strappy tops. Add an oversized denim jacket, and complete your look with accessories that look like you picked them up at niche Brooklyn boutiques, like transparent shades, woven bags and statement slides.

Chelsea
If you venture to Chelsea, it’s time to go full-on Charlotte York. Polished, poised and powerful, a Chelsea woman never underestimates the magic of an LBD and a serious statement shoe (with an equally serious heel). She likes classic shapes that show a little skin and she’s an absolute expert at navigating the line between daring and demure. She’s all about staying ahead of the trends and can always be seen carrying the season’s most coveted designer bag. Always down for after-hours drinks, her look transitions seamlessly from day to night with a simple swipe of red lippie. Chelsea chic, sorted.

REVIEW: Jeffree Star Blood Sugar Palette–SHOWPO

PROS
The pigment is BOMB.
Purple shades are really hard to nail with pigment and texture, JS has NAILED these as they’re buttery and easy to apply.
Nice red shades are near impossible to find generally. Blood Sugar and Cherry Soda are NEXT LEVEL.
CONS
My white shade is chalky AF.
Lots of similar shades.
MY THOUGHTS
Jeffree’s most wearable palette; if you can only afford/want one paletteThe cosmetic palettes are archaeological artefacts, originally used in predynastic Egypt to grind and apply ingredients for facial or body cosmetics., it should be Blood Sugar over Thirsty as it has more everyday shades, plus more shades in general. I’m obsessed with all the warm, wintery looks you can do with this palette, it’s GORGEOUS!

Secrets From A Former Beauty Editor–SHOWPO

From skincare to eyeliner, after 5 years as a beauty ed, I picked up my fair share of tips. Here are my faves!

Make sure you bring eyelinereyeliner is a cosmetic used to define the eyes. It is applied around the contours of the eye(s) to create a variety of aesthetic effects. up from the bottom of your eye as well as the top…
No, we’re not talking about a 90’s style waterline look here before you recoil in horror. The great Rae Morris, one of Australia’s most experienced makeupMakeup(Cosmetics) are substances or products used to enhance or alter the appearance or fragrance of the body. Many cosmetics are designed for use of applying to the face and hair. They are generally mixtures of chemical compounds; some being derived from natural sources (such as coconut oil), and some being synthetics.Common cosmetics include lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, foundation, rouge, skin cleansers and skin lotions, shampoo, hairstyling products (gel, hair spray, etc.), perfume and cologne. artists, taught me the incredible face-shifting benefits of making your eye ‘phi’. The theory comes from shaping your eye into a ‘universally appealing’ shape which requires lifting with a liner from the bottom. As a fiend for winged liner, I like to use kohl, starting from the inner corner of my lower lid, drawing up. You then wing out from the top, joining it with the bottom and filling in between. If winged liner isn’t your thing, you can also create the illusion of this eye shape with neutral eyeshadows for a more natural look. Look it up, it’s a game changer!

Making your blush fit your cheeks will make your face look thinner and save you from looking like an elderly drag queen…
Another tip from Morris (she really is a wealth of knowledge) is to make sure you’re not applying your blush with a brush that’s too big for your face. A touch of colour to the apples of your cheeks will make you look healthy and fresh while an oversized circle will drag down your entire face, ageing you a good few years. This is usually the opposite effect we’re after when we’re a little (or a lot) hungover and want to add some colour back onto our face.

Need a new blush? We’ve reviewed a bunch here.

Anti-frizz sheets are one of the greatest inventions ever but dryer sheets will do the exact same thing…
Smooth them on the crown of your head to forever nix those annoying flyaways. Keep a couple in your bag all winter long for the unfortunate times you get stuck in a torrential downpour or wind tunnel. Total life saver!

If you’re not using drying drops when painting your nails, then what the hell are you doing with your life…
Not sure about you but I find nothing more frustrating than waiting for nail polish to dry. While applying these miracle ‘dry drops’ to your nails sounds like it’s just going to mess things up, it’s actually an incredible product that will half the dry time and totally takes away the risk of smudging when you throw your hand into your handbag that little too quickly.

Cellulite creams sounds too good to be true and they are…
Really sorry for this one girl, but IMO it’s an important thing to know so you don’t waste your hard-earned cash. Instead, go for scrubs that will exfoliate dead skinSkin is the soft outer tissue covering vertebrates. (which makes the appearance of cellulite worse) and invigorate the skin’s surface with caffeine. Rubbing fake tan vigorously into the affected areas will also aid in lessening the appearance according to Kim Kardashian’s spray tanner, Jimmy Coco, as it disperses more of the product on the area making the coverage deeper and darker.

Read more about cellulite here.

There is no need to buy a fake tan for your face…
As a longtime lover of deep fake tan I’ve always used it straight on my face. If you’re really worried about it being too dark (or blocking your pores) mix it with a bit of your facial moisturiser to tone it down a few shades.

If you can only afford to splurge on one product, make it serum…
Expensive products are often filled with amazing ingredients (although a lot of the time so are cheap ones) but serums usually feature more concentrated doses of the miracle elements they stake their claims on. Serums are also formulated to penetrate deeper into the skin and therefore their ingredients will get to work quickly and more effectively than your typical moisturizing cream.

While you’re at it, don’t trust any retinol or vitamin C product that isn’t in airtight packaging…
Both of these ingredients are unstable which means their effectiveness will take a real dive as soon as they are exposed to light or air. That product you paid your hard-earned cash for is suddenly virtually useless as the active ingredients are now breaking down and are nowhere near as potent as they once were. They’ll keep expiring from there!

9 Trends Crazy Popular RN–SHOWPO

Some gals are all about the basics, but I am a lass who LOVES to chuck a trend or 40 into my closetA closet (especially in North American usage) is an enclosed space, a cabinet, or a cupboard in a house or building used for general storage or hanging or storing clothes.Modern closets can be built into the walls of the house during construction so that they take up no apparent space in the bedroom, or they can be large, free-standing pieces of furniture designed for clothing storage, in which case they are often called wardrobes or armoires.. While I was a bit sceptical of lasts years top trends (the corset belts are going to haunt us forever), this season is KILLING my bank account with all the fresh colours and prints peeking out at me in all directions. Pop a few into your style arsenal and prepare to turn heads in every direction.

CHECKS
My earliest memory of the check print comes in the form of Cher’s yellow skirtA skirt is a tube- or cone-shaped garment that hangs from the waist or hips and covers all or part of the legs. The hemline of skirts can vary from micro to floor-length and can vary according to cultural conceptions of modesty and aesthetics as well as the wearer’s personal taste, which can be influenced by such factors as fashion and social context. in Clueless. The check print is part schoolgirl, part farmer and part prep; making a cute AF essential print for every fashionista. While the print began its comeback on blazers and trousers, it’s graduated from chic suit sets to asymmetrical skirtsA skirt is a tube- or cone-shaped garment that hangs from the waist or hips and covers all or part of the legs. The hemline of skirts can vary from micro to floor-length and can vary according to cultural conceptions of modesty and aesthetics as well as the wearer’s personal taste, which can be influenced by such factors as fashion and social context., jumpsuits and the humble button-up.

GREY CHECKS
For my monochrome loving lasses who love the trend but baulk at adding colour to their closet palette.

TEDDY
I wasn’t loving this trendA trend is the latest style of popular culture including but not limited to: clothing, music, vernacular (common speech), and the latest tv shows. This form of culture is usually expressed by preps and other kids trying desperately to be accepted by peers despite obvious outcastment. to begin with as it honestly looked like the jacket my nanny has been sporting for about 15 years. But jokes on me as Nanny is clearly ahead of the trends. The teddy coats are the warmest, most comfortable thing you’ll ever wear AND you look adorable in them.

LEOPARD
Guys… I could NOT be happier that leopard print has made a comeback. For a while, it was reserved for costume parties and this made me very sad. But now it’s back mainstream with a vengeance and I couldn’t be happier. Dare I say everyone in fashion across the globe RN has at least one piece in the standout animal-print, so you know, get onboard! 🐆

PRINT PANTS
So sort of like a hybrid between gingham and check prints – these pants are comfy AF and belong in every gal’s wardrobe. Whether you’re after a relaxed fit pair or something more toight – we have a giant array of the popular pantaloons.

SPORTY STRIPES
For the athletic (or likes to pretend she is) cool girl. The horizontal or vertical stripe detailing on what are otherwise basic shapes and styles, instantly gives it a sports luxe vibe the insta world are frothing over.

STRIPES
Yes, just stripes, minus the sporty. Pants, two-piece sets, cosy tops and luxe swimwear; we’re celebrating stripes in a major way and I’m all for it. You’ll notice that many of our stripey styles are printed in a vertical stripe which is WAY more flattering as it elongates your figure.

GINGHAM
The pattern is peaking RN so best get your mitts on some styles ASAP, lest you’ll be left in a wake of contrasting checks. The Showpo team are creative little fillies and have produced a vast array of gingham styles, elevating the simple pattern in all kinds of clever ways to make an impression.

KHAKI
The fierce and fashionable colour is having a real bold moment in all of its combat-esque glory. I love that the bold colour can be juxtaposed in soft fabrics and cuts, making it way more feminine you thought possible. Whether your style is girly or more tomboy, this shade is versatile AF.

Well, without a doubt it’s courtesy of popular rap musicMusic is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound organized in time. Ghosting: The action of disappearing and ceasing all communication after going on a few dates with someone. This deed is especially conducive to Tinder interactions.

Hunty: A name made popular by drag queens (ever watched Ru Paul?). It’s an affectionate term for your bitchy friend.

Lit: When someone is getting tipsy or things are getting wild.

On point: Closely related to being “on fleek” – same same but different.

Orbiting: Closely related to the term ‘ghosting’; to orbit someone is to stop communication but still stalk them on social media.

Salty: Throwing around some negative vibes? Then you’re acting salty.

Slay: To slay is to own the game in the style stakes.

Spider: People drop this when they’re suggesting you’re hanging around awkwardly by yourself in the corner.

SKKRT SKKRT: You will hear this in rap and rnb tracks. It’s means to pull away, avoid or dodge someone

Thirsty: A term used to describe anyone whose acting desperate or hungry for something or someone.

Turnt: When you’ve passed the one too many drinks stage, you are TURNT!

YASSS: This is an over the top way of saying yes, use it when you’re keen for something like drinks on a Friday night.

Whoosh: Ever tell a joke that goes right over someone’s head? Well this is what the word whoosh is for when that dodo doesn’t get your banter.

Woke: the aftermath of having a mind-blowing revelation about life.

13 Drool-Worthy Celeb Wedding Dresses–SHOWPO

Now that the dust has settled from the royal wedding we’ve taken it upon ourselves to continue our lusting over gorgeous gowns with a look through the most stunning celeb wedding dresses of all time. PSA: After scrolling through these beauties you’ll be looking to score a fiancé stat. We warned you.

Sofia Vergara
It’s no real surprise that one of the most gorgeous women of all time really killed it on her weddingA wedding is a ceremony where two people or a couple are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. day. We thought it would be a real tough job to outshine Joe Manganiello’s abs but she truly did it in this dress.

Lauren Conrad
From the moment we heard the announcement, we were eagerly waiting for Lauren Conrad’s dreamy dressA dress (also known as a frock or a gown) is a garment consisting of a skirt with an attached bodice (or a matching bodice giving the effect of a one-piece garment). choice and we weren’t disappointed by the Laguna Beach cutie. With two classic gownsA gown, from medieval Latin gunna, is a usually loose outer garment from knee- to full-length worn by men and women in Europe from the early Middle Ages to the 17th century, and continuing today in certain professions; later, gown was applied to any full-length woman’s garment consisting of a bodice and attached skirt. A long, loosely fitted gown called a Banyan was worn by men in the 18th century as an informal coat. that were both so beautiful it’s hard to pick just one, but the Badgley Mischka lace with crystal pearl and glass beading won it for us.

Chrissy Teigen
All round legend (sorry we had to!), Mumma and wifey to John Legend, Chrissy Teigen really knocked it out of the park with full tulle skirt. While we didn’t expect it, this real bridal vibe was perfect on Chrissy, along with the ultimate bridal cleavage – hey we’re not complaining.

Nikki Reed
The Twilight star had already captured our hearts marrying her beau, Ian Somerhalder (they’re serious couple goals) but the dress was everything our lacey, backless dreams were made of. Understated, sophisticated and just oh so pretty!

Solange Knowles
While technically this look was so much more than a dress, there’s no leaving Beyonce’s baby sis off this list. The cape, the plunging neckline, the delicious creamy colour and of course the jumpsuit reveal – it was just the ultimate in cool.

Kate Moss
Kate looked so stunning wearing this relaxed style with gorgeous gold detailing through the bottom of the floaty skirt. Delicately pretty yet still super sexy, we love the 1920’s embroidered cap veil she paired it with.

Kim Kardashian
Which time you may ask? We’ve gotta say the dress that Kim married Kayne in was our fave. There was no way it wasn’t going to be the most extra thing we’d ever seen (THAT VEIL) and let’s face it, with all the dress changes going on the last time around, we’re not really sure what happened!

Kate Middleton
Kate really embraced her princess moment and ran with it. Despite talk that Pippa had stolen the show, we will forever love her classic and classy lace sleeves and beautifully shaped bodice. The crown didn’t hurt either.

Gwen Stefani
While the pink dip-dyed bottom is definitely a more individual look, Gwen is a unique girl and we really rated this non-traditional dress choice when the singer married her No Doubt sweetheart, Gavin Rossdale.

Allison Williams
Channelling Kate Middleton class, the Girls’ stars’ gown was refined but pretty with gorgeous lace sleeves and a full skirt. The backless element really created the ultimate wedding look. Allison embraced her inner bride and we’re so here for it.

Amal Clooney
Amal delivered what off-the-shoulder dreams are made of with this gorgeous lace-layered gown. With ornate and delicate detailing, Amal showed off a flawless figure when she said ‘I do’ to the one and only George Clooney.

Poppy Delevingne
The supermodel and socialite’s dress served up the perfect mix of sequins, floral detailing and the luxe-boho vibe she’s famous for. The happy couple had a second ceremony in Morocco (dreamy!) where she wore a second unique dress with colourful flower detailing a beautifully two-tiered floaty skirt.

Bianca May Jagger
The white blazer, the cleavage, the veiled hat! There are just so many amazing elements coming together with Bianca May Jagger’s wedding look. We adore it! This look oozes sex appeal while still looking so sleek. She was marrying a rock star after all!
