TOPSHOP:How To Style The Topshop Collection Everyone Is Talking About

If you hadn’t already heard, Topshop IDOL just returned with a brand-new drop for Spring Summer 2020 and it’s the collection everyone wants to get their hands on. Inspired by the 1996 film Romeo and Juliet, it focuses on sheer fabrics, intricate prints and a lighter colour palette whilst still maintaining IDOL’s signature rock and roll edge. Expect tattoo prints, lots of texture and high-low pairings to kickstart your perfect new-season wardrobe. To give you a hand on the styling front, we’ve put together five outfits to get you even more excited…

  1. Dress of dreams
Introducing our summer evening dress of dreams: the embellished floral slip. It’s so nice it pretty much speaks for itself, so keep the finishing touches elevated but pared-back. We could see this look working for all those special occasions you’ve got coming up soon…
  2. That pink suit
Everyone here at Topshop HQ has been talking about this suit and it’s finally arrived! The high-waisted trousers and cropped blazer make for a unique silhouette and we’d make it feel even more exciting paired with a slogan tee, metallic heels and a chain bag.
  3. Spring please
Meet our favourite duo of the collection: this fluffy cardigan and crop top set. To achieve total spring vibes early, pair it with a flippy mini skirt and tie in the colours of the floral pattern with a green mini bag and woven flats.
  4. Fortune teller
A mini dress worn with chunky boots and bare legs always makes for a great look. We’re loving this tarot card printed lace slip and we can guarantee everyone will ask you where it’s from. Throw over a denim shacket and a nylon bag and you’re good to go.
  5. Tatted up
If you want to take this collection on a night out, pair one of our fitted tattoo print tops with a metallic skirt for a cool-girl edge. The outfit makes quite the statement, so keep it subdued when it comes to accessories and simply pair with some black heels and bag.

TOPSHOP:How To Style This Season’s Shoe Trends Inspired By The Street Style Stars

If, like us, you’ve spent the long rainy months of winter stuck in the same pair of boots, you’ll be happy to hear that a fresh set of shoe trends have just arrived for the new season. Even more excitingly, they’re all so good you’ll want to wear them right now. So, to help you decide which pair (or two) to invest in this spring, we’ve rounded up our five favourite new styles and looked to the curb-side sartorial specialists for styling inspiration. Just be warned: given how covetable all the options on offer are right now, it’s still likely to be a pretty tricky decision…

  1. The princess pump…
Metallic and in sugary-sweet pastel shades: some of our favourite mules at the moment look like they could have been plucked straight off the feet of a Barbie doll. To incorporate them into your look in cool street-style fashion, offset the ultra-pretty vibes with a checked smock dress. Then, tie the outfit together with colour-coordinated extras.
  2. The hi-tech trainer…
What was once a staple in the uniform of dads and Silicon Valley geniuses alike, has now become one of the most-loved footwear fashions of the moment. That’s right, hi-tech chunky trainers are in. Wear them with anything from streetwear to tailored trousers and midi dresses or add a lighter touch with a floaty floral midi and a beige bomber.
  3. The white boot…
The boot says ‘winter weather’, the lighter shade says ‘it’s spring’, making the bright white boot the ultimate transitional shoe. And whilst white will undoubtedly pair well with most of the pieces in your wardrobe, this street style star proves that they are particularly striking against a simple monochrome look, so, take note.
  4. The poppy mule…
Mules are the shoe everyone is talking about at the moment and the most popular pairs are vibrant and candy-coloured. Take your tailored occasion-wear to the next level this season by clashing a pair with your equally brightly-hued suit. Or, if you’re after something a little less loud, let your mules add a fresh pop of colour to a classic grey co-ord.
  5. The chunky boot…
It looks like our favourite chunky black boot is here to stay for another season. This comes as no surprise given their cool and comfortable shape, which makes us want to wear them with everything from floral dresses to vinyl trousers. Breathe new life into the grungy staple this season by wearing your pair with a crisp oversized white shirt, a vinyl mini skirt and a layered knit.

ZARA:The Worst Shoes to Wear to the Office

Figuring out how to master your wardrobe in a professional setting can sometimes be difficult to navigate. It’s often a tricky balance to personal style with professional style in a work setting—and shoes are no exception. The issue gets even more complicated when fashion enters the equation. What are the best styles to wear, and which ones should you skip in the office?
To find out from a veteran of both the fashion industry and a professional office setting, I asked Michelle Scanga from Who What Wear to weigh in with her take on which shoes are best to wear at the office—and the style she wouldn’t recommend. “Wearing shoes that you can’t confidently walk in is a big no in my book,” she says, “along with sky-high stiletto heels.”
While towering stilettos are a no in her book, she has some recommendations for what to wear instead. “I think it’s better to err on the more conservative side and opt for a moderate heel height,” she says, “or you really can’t go wrong with a block heel.”
If you’re in the market for some new office-appropriate shoes that are also fashion girl–approved, go on to see my edit of the best new styles to add to your closet right now.
Moderate Heel Height
As Scanga recommends, a moderate heel height is always a great bet for the office. You can choose a style ranging from closed-toe slingbacks to open-toe sandals to ankle boots depending on your personal style and office culture.
These shoes are everywhere on the street style scene and a great option for the office as well.
Pumps this fall are finished with cool modern upgrades like these cutout side panels.
Another modern take on pumps.
You can’t go wrong with a classic.
For a little edge without going over the top.
Try out an unexpected color like lime green, which we’re seeing everywhere this season.
Sculptural heels are so trendy right now.
A croc finish is a great way to transition your boots to fall.
This style also comes in burgundy.
Strappy sandals are perfect for the office when paired with elevated trousers.
Block Heels
Another great office shoe style that Scanga recommends is block heels. The comfortable shoes are easy to walk in so are a great option to wear all day long.
Pair these with high-waisted trousers.
Some statement shoes you can wear to work.
These classic slingbacks get a cool upgrade with a snakeskin print.
Pair these with anything from a pencil skirt to a midi dress.
Slip into shoes from Jacquemus’s fall collection.
Here’s a summer style that can cross over to fall.
Look for boots with a block heel to pair with trousers and dresses.
Slouchy boots are everywhere for fall and are perfect for pairing with a long dress at the office.

TOPSHOP:18 Of Our Favourite Fancy Tops That You Really Need For Party Season

If you’re all about getting the most out of your wardrobe pieces then investing in a fancy top (or two) is one of the smartest decisions you could make this party season. Why, you ask? Because they are just so versatile: they work for any occasion like a night out with the girls or your next office party, and pair with anything from jeans to skirts and tailored trousers. Don’t know the dress code? Just throw on a nice top and you’ve covered all bases (i.e. made an effort, but not too much). So now we’ve got that sorted, could we tempt you with the following…
Really nice tops come in all shapes and sizes so if you’re wondering what kind to go for you’re really spoiled for choice. Since Christmas is on the horizon, selecting a glittery embellished number is a great idea because there’s no better time to go big on sparkles than party season! Alternatively, if you want something that will still stand-out but isn’t quite as OTT as all-over sequins, then a shimmering metallic top would work well for you – right now, our favourite ones come in both glossy satin materials and retro voluminous taffeta! Or, maybe you’re more of a print person, in which case, our best options are in Christmassy red checks or cool animal print. Crop tops are always a great idea for a night out-out because they will look great with lots of your other wardrobe pieces like high-waisted jeans, leather skirts or even tailored trousers. Plus, there are plenty to pick from including lace camis and silky keyhole tops. Finally, if desk to drinks is on the cards, then you’ll be needing a few fancy blouses: think long sleeve shapes but updated with luxe details. Our key pieces at the moment come in satin materials and have added detail in the form of neckline ruching and cute ribbon bows.

TOPSHOP:5 Iconic Outfits From Winter Movies We Want To Recreate This Season

If you ask us, movies are the ultimate source of fashion inspiration. Movie wardrobes are designed and carefully curated specifically to highlight each character’s different personalities and storylines, so you can always find one that speaks to your taste. To make things even better, all of these characters then wear their perfect outfits against scenic backdrops and film sets, making them look even better! So, for inspiration this season, we decided to look back at some of our favourite flicks from across the ages and recreate the iconic outfits of their most stylish stars…

  1. When Harry Met Sally (1989)
There’s no shortage of stylish looks in the rom-com of all rom-coms, When Harry Met Sally. Set in the ’80s, the film is overflowing with power-shoulder blazers, high-waisted trousers, puffy taffeta sleeves and mom jeans. However, the knitted jumpers that Harry and Sally wear in the apartment scene have got to be two of the most iconic looks in the whole film (and movie history). They’re so simple to recreate, too! Simply pick your knit and keep the rest simple with either denim jeans or an A-line skirt, classic boots and patterned tights.
  2. Manhattan (1979)
Oversized shirts, cool tailored trousers, long flowing hair and natural makeup – Meryl Streep as Jill in Woody Allen’s Manhattan is serving up all the style inspiration we need this season. Due to the film’s noir style, we can’t tell exactly what colours she’s wearing here, but timeless neutrals are probably the closest bet, so pair two beige pieces together and wear with brown add-ons.
  3. An Education (2009)
Made in the ’00s but set in the ’60s, An Education transports us into the world of a sophisticated set of British socialites whose style at the time was more influenced by the fashion houses of Paris than of London. The film’s leading lady, played by Carey Mulligan, wears a number of covetable looks – think simple satin slips, classic trench coats and Audrey Hepburn style hair. However, today, all our eyes are on this outfit worn by Rosamond Pike’s character, Helen. Who could say no to a killer leopard print coat paired with sleek black and red accessories?
  4. Notting Hill (1999)
It might have been 20 years since the absolute classic that is Notting Hill graced our screens for the first time, but could Julia Roberts’ style as Anna Roberts be any more 2019? It’s probably because most of her looks are made up of simple basics that will never go out of fashion, like the pinstripe trousers and white T-shirt in this coffee spilling scene. But remember, it’s the ultra-stylish leather jacket and beret that elevate this look to iconic status so they should be a part of all of your day-to-day outfits this winter.
  5. The Great Gatsby (2013)
2019 is drawing to a close, which means this NYE rings in the start of this century’s Roaring Twenties! What could be a better time than this to recreate a look from Baz Luhrmann’s glittering and glamorous interpretation of The Great Gatsby? A sparkling slip dress is always a great choice for festive parties but give your look the Gatsby touch by accessorising with luscious faux fur and dripping gold jewellery.

TOPSHOP:5 Ways To Clash Prints Without Looking Like A Mess

When it comes to dressing for winter, it’s hard to resist the urge to wear the same dark colours from head-to-toe every day. Of course, going for all-black-everything is great for certain occasions, like when you’ve overslept or you don’t know the dress code. However, after admiring the more eccentric outfits of the street style set recently, we think it’s time to take a step out of our sartorial comfort zones and try clashing prints for a change. Whether it’s polka dots with checks or animal prints with stripes, the trick is to keep things playful. But if you’re feeling a little apprehensive – don’t worry. By the time you finish reading this you’ll be putting patterns together in your sleep…

  1. Shall we begin with something easy, just to get you started…
If you’re new to the clashing prints game then monochrome is a good place to start because it won’t feel too garish. Try pairing a simple printed dress with a chunky block colour knit. Then have fun with patterned accessories like a cow-print purse and fishnet tights.
  2. Okay, let’s add a little colour. Just a little though…
You’ve mastered the monochrome mash-up so now it’s time to turn things up a notch. Pairing mismatched checks in heritage hues together works well because of the similar shape and tones on each piece. So, go all out and wear it on your trousers, jacket and accessories.
  3. Now you’ve got the hang of it, why not try out different prints…
You’ve got to grips with styling one print, so it’s time to try two at once. People have loved leopard print so much in recent years that it’s often referred to as ‘the new neutral’ which makes it a great pattern to style against contrasting prints like plaid. For the rest, keep things simple with over the knee boots and a chic cardi.
  4. …but don’t stop there – add colours, prints, stripes, you name it!
If we had asked you four paragraphs ago how you felt about clashing prints AND colours you might have said ‘a little daunted’. But now, you’re a seasoned mix-and-match pro so don’t shy away from bright shades. Simply start with your most vibrant print and make sure the rest of your look pulls out the different colours within it: it will clash and look harmonious all at once.
  5. And to finish, here’s something for your night out too…
Whilst others might reach for their LBD on a night out, why not go against the grain and try something a little more eccentric. Layering a sheer polka dot number under your slip dress will add some interest to your look without going overboard or feeling too warm and, trust us, a statement coat is always a great idea…
